Carré opened its doors for the first time on 3 December 1887. The majestic building on the banks of the Amstel, built as a circus theatre, grew to become the country's most famous theatre and venue for cabaret, theatre, music, ballet, musicals and, happily, still for the circus as well. After 126 years, the history of Carré is still very palpable while, at the same time, there is, behind the scenes, an ultramodern theatre.
An extensive tour allows you to feel the dynamism of Carré and also gives you a peek behind doors which would otherwise be closed. The guide takes you past the stage, the foyers and the changing rooms. On the way you will hear all kinds of exceptional stories about the shows, the artists and the architecture and you will find out about the real-life fairy tales that have unfolded at Carré during the past 126 years. You could not get any closer to the secret of Carré.
The tours take place on Saturday mornings at 11.00 hrs and last approximately one hour.
